LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Belmont Abbey's women's volleyball team has been honored with an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2018-2019 season, the organization announced today. The Crusaders are one of 142 Division II women's teams to receive the award. The Belmont Abbey men's team also receive similar recognition.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
"Our team continues to work hard on the court and in the classroom, while also being active in our community," Head Coach Toni Elyea said. "They are a very impressive group of young women and I feel fortunate to work with them. A total of 23 appearances on the Dean's List with President's List honorees is a huge accomplishment. We are so proud of them."
