BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team advanced to the Conference Carolinas Semifinals after their 1-0 victory over the sixth-seeded Erskine (6-10-1, 5-5-1) in the quarterfinals. The third-seeded Crusaders (13-3, 8-3) captured the win after a goal from Mary Doyle in the 78th minute.
How it Happened
- The first half was ended with no score as the Crusaders outshot the Fleet 9-2.
- In the 78th minute, Brooke Hedgspeth crossed a ball into the box which Sabrina Bologna turned into a shot which was saved by Erskine keeper, Sara Dooley. The save bounced to the foot of Mary Doyle who tapped in the rebound to give The Abbey the lead.
- Belmont Abbey's keeper Lauryn Harding recorded two saves in the contest with Dooley managing seven.
- By the time the buzzer sounded The Abbey had amassed 16 shots with Erskine recording three.
