CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The Belmont Abbey women's bowling team earned a third-place finish in this weekend's Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational.
On Saturday, the Crusaders played three matches. The Abbey's team scores improved each match. The following were the match scores for the day:
Belmont Abbey 695, Bowie State 826
Belmont Abbey 773, Norfolk State 807
Belmont Abbey 788, Morgan State 927
In the afternoon, playing five Baker games, The Abbey earned a 718-707 win against Bowie State, giving the Abbey its first win of the weekend. Then the Crusaders dropped a very competitive 756-750 match against Norfolk State.
On Sunday, the Crusaders won two of their three matches, all of which were played in Baker format. After dropping the opening match to Norfolk State 3-1, The Abbey got a 3-1 victory over the Morgan State Bears. In its final match of the tournament, the Crusaders built an 88-pin lead over Bowie State to finish off the 4-1 win, and went 2-1 on the day. The team finished the tournament in third place.
Freshman Ashley Saville came in third place overall and made the all-tournament team.
Belmont Abbey will next compete in the Jackson State Invitational on November 11 and 12 in Jackson, Miss.
