Crusaders Face SWU in Conference Tournament

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey softball team jumped out early to lead the six seeded Southern Wesleyan Warriors but could not hang on as the Warriors edged out The Abbey 4-2. The second game for each team in the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament started late Friday night as Belmont Abbey (21-21) scored in the second and third innings, but SWU (21-18) managed four runs in the sixth to earn the win.


Melissa Neyhouse, Brianna Embler, and Cameron Cooper all recorded base hits for The Abbey.

Cooper's sac fly in the second plated the first run of the game.

Neyhouse drove in a run in the third with a single up the middle.

Ivorie Maltby started for the Crusaders throwing 3.0 innings without giving up a run.

Annabeth Watkins tossed the last 3.0 innings recording a strikeout.

Up Next

Belmont Abbey will play the number two seed King tomorrow at 12 noon. The Crusaders defeated King in the first game of the tournament 5-2.
