COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team had a fury of offensive opportunities but were not able to send in the equalizer as Columbia International defeated the Crusaders 1-0. The contest was the last non-conference matchup of the season for The Abbey (8-3-1).
Despite the final outcome, Belmont Abbey controlled the ball for the majority of the contest. The Crusaders outshot the Rams 24-6, placing 11 on frame. The 24 shots matches the season-high shot total first eclpised in the 4-1 win over Shaw. Mark Trompeter led the team with five shots with Nando Morales right behind him with four attacks. The Abbey managed 10 corners on the night and did not allow any for Columbia International.
The lone goal of the match came in the 80th minute when Jeremiah Ruth found the back of the net. Ram keeper Hugo Lemus racked up 11 saves on the night with Abbey keeper, Evan Morrow, recording two.
Belmont Abbey returns home Saturday to host Limestone at 3:30 P.M.
