BELMONT, N.C. - Austin Hasen scored five times, while Noah Haas scored four, though the #2-seed Belmont Abbey Men's Lacrosse team lost a 14-13 OT contest to #3-seed Indianapolis this afternoon.  The Crusaders finish their season with a 14-4 record, while the Greyhounds move to 16-2.  In the final minute of regulation, lightning caused a 3-hour, 15-minute delay.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Indy scored a man-up goal midway through the first quarter, but The Abbey scored three goals in the rest of the period, two of which were assisted by Liam Osborne, and the Crusaders held a 3-1 lead at the end of the quarter
  • The second quarter was a very high-scoring period.  The Greyhounds scored three goals early, before Haas found the back of the net to tie the game at four
  • Hasen scored twice in the last five minutes of the period, and Collin Grippo tallied a score with nine seconds remaining in the period to give the Crusaders a 7-6 lead at halftime
  • The third quarter was a defensive battle, though Osborne tallied a goal at the 6:19 mark off a pass from Haas, before setting Hasen up for a goal.  The teams were tied at nine heading into the fourth quarter
  • Hasen scored a man-up goal just 32 seconds into the quarter
  • Later in the period, Haas scored back-to-back goals for The Abbey, while Osborne found the back of the net less than a minute later to put The Abbey in front 13-10
  • The game was tied at 13 with 47 seconds left when the lightning struck, causing the delay
  • Indy's Drew Billig scored the game-winning goal 39 seconds into overtime
  • On the day, Hasen was the Crusaders' offensive leader with five goals.  Haas finished with four goals and an assist, while Osborne scored twice and dished out five assists
