Kuhfahl Takes Fourth in National Points Race

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Johnny Kuhfahl amassed 13 points during the 90-lap (30 Km) points race Friday night to finish fourth in the country, highlighting the second day of the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championship. The event concludes on Saturday.


  • In the only competition of the morning session, Belmont Abbey entered four riders. The competition consists of 12 laps or 4 km.
  • Kuhfahl was the top rider for the Crusaders, taking 11th place with a time of 4:43.307 seconds, while Lance Abshire completed the race in 4:54.727 to place 26th. Collin Tellechea completed the race in 4:56.56 for 31st and Charles Daniel came in 33rd at 4:57.695.


  • After being upset in the quarterfinal round last night, junior Nick Oestreich rebounded nicely on Friday, winning the race for 5-8 place. He covered the 200 meters over 11.709 seconds to take fifth.


  • Kuhfahl, who finished second in qualifying last night, took fourth. He earned points on six of the 15 sprints for 13 points total. Nat Worcester and Trey Hedgecock finished back-to-back in 25th and 26th, respectively. Abshire, who qualified for the final, opted not to race.
