Crusaders Host Tusculum in Home Opener Wednesday

BELMONT, N.C. -- After two games away from home to start the 2016-17 season, Belmont Abbey opens the home schedule tonight with a key contest against South Atlantic Conference member Tusculum. The contest marks the first game at the Wheeler Center for new Crusaders coach Billy Taylor.

Domino's Pizza is the game sponsor and will be offering buy one, get on free specials throughout the game.

Belmont Abbey is 1-1 following a split last weekend in the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge, defeating Wingate 80-77 on Saturday after falling to host Mars Hill 88-77 in the opener. Deion Lane led the team in scoring both nights, registering 19 and 18 points over the two contests.

Three other players have also averaged double figures in scoring over the first two games -- Drexler Clark (14.0), Jacob Wilson (13.0) and Gunnar Hardarson (10.0). Wilson is the top rebounder (6.5 rpg), while Clark leads the team in assists with 5.0 per contest.

Tusculum is 2-0 after defeating Lees-McRae and King in its part of the challenge. The Pioneers overcame double-digit deficits both nights, including being down 23 in an 88-81 victory over the Tornado on Saturday.

Ronnie Baylark leads Tusculum in scoring at 19 points, while Chase Mounce is the rebounding leader with 6.0 per game.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Wheeler Center.
