TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Jakob Rolly laced a single through the left side to give Belmont Abbey the lead in the top of the ninth as the Crusaders would hold on to capture the 9-5 win over the second-seeded Barton Bulldogs to advance in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament. Belmont Abbey (27-23) trailed Barton (31-20) 4-0 entering the eighth. The Abbey scored two in the eighth and five in the ninth to eliminate the Bulldogs.
Trailing by three in the sixth when Richard DeLaCruz lifted a sac fly to score Moran.
Matty Bapst drove in a run in the seventh with a single to cut the deficit to two.
Ben Sneider tied the game in the eighth with a two-run double.
In the ninth, Rolly's bases-loaded single scored Mason Dodd and DeLaCruz to give The Abbey their first lead of the game.
Aehlert collected an RBI single and Sneider drove in two more runs to add insurance for The Abbey.
Blake Waldren started for the Crusaders pitching 6.0 inning and striking out eight.
White was credited with his third win of the season and MacPhail earned his third save if the year.
The Crusaders will face the third-seeded Mount Olive Trojans tonight at 8 PM with the winner advancing to the championship against North Greenville.
