LANDER, S.C. - The No. 14 Belmont Abbey Crusaders charged for 14 runs and 12 hits as they powered past the Lander Bearcats 14-4 in non-conference action Tuesday night. The Crusaders benefited from a four-hit day from Nick Beinlich who also drove in four runs. Belmont Abbey improves to 34-9 on the season as Lander moves to 13-28.
The Crusaders scored first in the third innings as Beinlich worked a two-RBI single and with three runs scoring on the play. Colin Rosenbaum drove in a run with a single to give The Abbey the 4-0 lead. Beinlich recorded another two-RBI single in the fourth increasing the lead to 6-0.
Lander got on the board in the fourth when N. Schrecken hit a solo home run. Belmont Abbey took the run back in the fifth when Jakob Rolly doubled in Thomas Yoder. In the sixth when the Crusaders pulled off the double steal with Beinlich stealing second and Matt McGarry stole home.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lander scored three runs with a home run by C. Jones and a groundout that plated a run.
The Crusaders tacked on six more runs, scoring three in the seventh and two in the eighth. McGarry doubled in two runs, and Beinlich forced an error that scored McGarry. In the eighth, Josh Genthe launched his ninth home run of the season with a two-run shot and AJ Hendricks legged out a triple that scored Rolly.
Sam Luchansky earned his eighth win of the year tossing 5.0 innings allowing one run on three hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.
The Crusaders will host Conference Carolinas opponent Erskine in a three-game series that will begin with a 6 P.M. first pitch Friday night.
