HICKORY, N.C. – Colin Rosenbaum collected four hits including a grand slam as a part of his six RBI effort to lead the Crusaders to a 19-3 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. The Abbey tallied 20 hits on the day on their way to their 11th consecutive win. Belmont Abbey improves to 16-2 on the season as the Bears move to 12-6.
Robert Lathrop added three hits in the contest driving in two runs and scoring two as well. Nick Beinlich and Luke Cureton both notched two hits with Beinlich scoring four runs and driving in three on his third home run of the season.
Belmont Abbey scored four runs in the first on hits from Rosenbaum, Thomas Yoder, and Kevin Elefante. The Abbey platted two more runs in the second when Rosenbaum and Yoder both registered singles. With the 6-0 lead, the Crusaders doubled their lead touching the plate six more times in the third. Jakob Rolly and Lathrop laced RBI singles before Rosenbaum's grand slam added to the lead.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored a run in both the fourth and fifth but the Crusaders added three in the sixth when Lathrop drove in a run and Beinlich launched his home run. Belmont Abbey added another run on the seventh and Adam Arcadia tallied an RBI single in the eighth followed by Luke Heiken's RBI single, plating the Crusaders' 19th run.
The Bears scored again in the eighth with an RBI single.
Drew Goodman started on the mound for The Abbey pitching 2.0 innings allowing one hit and one walk striking out two. Griffin Baker entered after Goodman and recorded his first win of the season, throwing 2.0 innings allowing one run, one hit, and one walk, with one strikeout. Beck Way, Alex Nodarse, Wes Wood, and Joe Cooney all added innings in relief.
Belmont Abbey will host conference opponent North Greenville for a weekend series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
