BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team completed the sweep of Conference Carolinas opponent Emmanuel with a 13-5 win Saturday. The win gives the Crusaders a 10-2 record with a 3-0 conference record. Emmanuel moves to 5-4 on the year and 0-3 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey tallied 15 hits on the contest as five Crusaders recorded multi-hit games. Nick Beinlich, Thomas Yoder, Josh Genthe, Luke Cureton, and Jakob Rolly all had two hits on the game with Cureton leading the way with three RBI. Colin Rosenbaum drove in two runs and Genthe led the team with three runs scored. Kevin Elefante and Cureton both scored a pair of runs for The Abbey.
Belmont Abbey scored first in the second inning off Cureton's two-run home run, his first of the year. The Crusaders plated seven runs in the third recording seven hits in the frame. The Abbey also scored a run in the fourth and sixth before two more in the seventh. Belmont Abbey drove in 12 of their 13 runs in the game.
Blake Waldren earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings allowing only six hits and one walk while striking out three. Beck Way threw an inning in relief and Robert Frantzis pitched the last two innings for the Crusaders. Emmanuel's Cooper Murphy was given the loss in his 2.2 innings where he allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and just one walk.
The Crusaders will hit the road and play at Wingate Tuesday at 4 p.m.
