HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey's Cassidy Bonito has been named Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Player of the Week, the league office announced today. The award is the second of the year for the junior setter and marks the second straight week that a Crusader has been honored.
Bonito led Belmont Abbey to a 2-0 weekend trip to Mount Olive and Barton, giving The Abbey the North Division title, their first of any kind in the sport of volleyball since 2013 (pre-divisions). Bonito posted double-doubles in both matches, bringing her season-high total to a team-high-tying 11. She totaled 64 assists and 22 digs, while hitting .273 with eight kills. The Pompano Beach, Fla., native also added four blocks and two aces.
Belmont Abbey has now won 21 matches -- its highest total since 2013 -- including 19 of the last 22 since a 2-6 start. The Crusaders being Conference Carolinas Tournament play on Tuesday when they host Southern Wesleyan in a 6:30 p.m. quarterfinal match.
