BELMONT, N.C. -- Mackenzie Chrapliwy posted a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs and Brianna Morgheim added 11 kills, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (25-12, 17-25, 25-16, 25-19) victory over Limestone in the women's volleyball regular-season finale Saturday afternoon. Cassidy Bonito also posted a double-double of 37 assists and 10 digs.
The Crusaders closed out the campaign at 15-11 overall and 9-5 in Conference Carolinas play. The teams will meet again in the tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Wheeler Center.
Belmont Abbey used back-to-back kills to break a 5-5 tie in the opening set, starting a 9-3 run that made the score 14-8. After Limestone closed to within 16-11, six straight points sparked the Crusaders to a 22-11 advantage and led to the 25-12 victory.
The second set was all Saints as they scored the first three points and never trailed, evening the match with a 25-17 decision. The third set was back and forth with Belmont Abbey moving ahead for good, 6-4, with back-to-back points. At 8-7, six straight points on Keifer Zimmerman's serve created space and the Crusaders added on, winning 25-16.
The final set saw The Abbey rally from an early deficit. Four straight points, again on Zimmerman's serve turned a 12-9 deficit into a 13-12 lead, then the Crusaders broke a 13-13 tie with three in a row. Limestone closed to within 18-15, but back-to-back points ended the threat.
Belmont Abbey outhit the Saints (8-13, 8-7) .206 to .107 and had six aces.
