WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey's distance medley relay team of Julia Otranto, Maya McQune, Hannah Zenker and Annie Hetzel posted a school-record time of 13:01.47 to take first place at the 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship. The race features four different distances -- 1200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters and a mile.
Otranto and Hetzel also scored points in individual races. Otranto won her heat and finished third overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.86, while Hetzel was sixth in the 3000 meters at 11:19.26.
Several other Crusaders won heats, but did not qualify for the finals: Genevieve Hicken (200m/Section 1), Savannah Lamb (60 Hurdles/Heat 2), Ashley Caldwell (60 Hurdles/Heat 3), Natalie Nelson (Long Jump and Triple Jump), McQune (200m/Section 3) and Zenker (Mile).
Belmont Abbey now turns its attention to the outdoor season which begins next month.
