Women's Tennis Goes 2-0 Against ESU, Shepherd

HILTON HEAD, SC - The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team earned two wins today, improving its record to 5-7.  East Stroudsburg moved to 1-4, while Shepherd is now 4-10.  Belmont Abbey won 17 of its 18 matches on the day.

In the morning match against East Stroudsburg, freshman Aisiri Jandyala earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at #1 singles.  She paired with sophomore Teagan McNamara for an 8-2 win at #2 doubles.  McNamara was also very impressive in singles competition, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #2 spot.  Freshman Morgan Zahnd won her #5 singles match 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles competition was very strong by the Crusaders, won all three matches by scores of 8-2.

In the match against the Shepherd Rams, Jandyala was again strong at #1 singles, where she earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory.  McNamara also won 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles.  Sophomore Rachele Subik earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the #4 spot.

Doubles play was also very strong in this match as the Crusaders won 8-1, 8-0, and 8-1.

Head Coach Michael Salomon offered some of his thoughts on the day: "I was really pleased with our attitude, effort, and camaraderie today.  We played hard and supported each other the best we have all year.  It's great to see us coming together at this point in the season.  We will need to continue working together to keep developing our culture and our performance level."

The Crusaders will be back for more action tomorrow at 11am, when they face Kutztown.
