Abbey Battles North Greenville in Defensive Contest

BELMONT, N.C. - The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to North Greenville this afternoon in what proved to be a very defensive battle.  With the loss, The Abbey moves to 9-2 on the season, with a 5-2 conference mark.  North Greenville is now 8-4 overall, and 6-2 against Conference Carolinas opponents.

How it Happened

  • North Greenville scored in the fifth minute of the contest, but The Abbey defense shut NGU out the rest of the way
  • The Belmont Abbey defensive unit, led by senior Rachel Coutinho, held North Greenville to 10 shots on the day, four on goal
  • Morgan Farrar led The Abbey's offensive efforts with three shots
  • The Abbey took 11 corner kicks in the match
