Crusaders Upend Warriors 5-2 on Homecoming Day

BELMONT, N.C. - Hailee Jarry scored her first career goal, as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned a 5-2 victory over Southern Wesleyan this afternoon.  The win puts The Abbey at 7-1 this season, including 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play.  Southern Wesleyan now stands at 3-5 overall and 2-3 against conference opponents

How it Happened

  • Allyson Elliott got Belmont Abbey off to a fast start with a goal just 6:26 into the match
  • In the 24th minute, the Warriors took a 2-1 lead, but the Crusader defense shut SWU out the rest of the way
  • Morgan Patton tied the match at two in the 29th, off a pass from Kathryn Laughlin
  • In the closing minutes of the opening half, Sydney Pluhacek scored off a free kick, giving Belmont Abbey a 3-2 lead at halftime
  • A Katherine Turner goal in the 72nd gave The Abbey a 4-2 advantage
  • Jarry capped off the scoring in the 89th with her first career goal
  • The Crusaders' five goals were the most in a match this season
