BANNER ELK, N.C. - Senior Rebecca Luca scored five goals in her final regular season game, leading the Crusaders to an 18-7 victory over Lees-McRae College this evening. The Abbey finishes the 2018 campaign with a 12-5 record, including 8-2 in conference games. The Bobcats finish with a 1-11 overall record, with a 1-9 record against conference opponents.
It took Marin Felsoci less than a minute into the game to get the scoring started for The Abbey. Lees-McRae answered with a goal a minute later, before Luca scored two goals in a row for the Crusaders. Later in the half, Belmont Abbey got two goals in a span of 41 seconds to jump out to a 5-1 lead. Felsoci made it a 9-1 game before Lees-McRae got its second score of the contest. With less than a minute to go in the period, Luca tallied her third goal of the period, and the Crusaders held a 12-2 lead at halftime. Belmont Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 22-12 in the half.
Luca scored two of the first three Crusaders goals of the second, increasing the Abbey lead to 15-3. Then Allison Cline set up Kylie Eastman for a score. The Bobcats scored the next two goals, but then Angelina Perrone found the back of the net on a pass from Eva Stahlschmidt. Cline capped off the scoring with a goal at the 1:26 mark as The Abbey wrapped up the 18-7 victory.
On the night, Luca led the Crusaders' offensive attack with fve goals. Felsoci scored four goals and handed out an assist to finish with five points. Rebecca Stromberg scored three times. Defensively, the Crusaders recorded 11 caused turnovers. Annie Brannon made eight saves in goal.
Belmont Abbey will host a Quarterfinal game of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Wednesday, April 25 at 4 p.m. The opponent is still to be determined.
