BELMONT, N.C. - Marin Felsoci scored six times as the Crusader women's lacrosse team earned a 15-12 victory over Catawba College this evening. The Abbey improves to 3-1 in 2018, while the Indians dipped to 2-4.
Felsoci scored the first goal of the game on a free position shot. Rebecca Luca made it 2-0 with another free position goal just 45 seconds later. At the 22:51 mark, Madison Eberhardt scored on a pass from Felsoci. Caitlin Cook then set up Felsoci for her second goal of the game and a 4-0 Abbey lead. Later in the half, Kylie Eastman scored two goals in a row for the Crusaders, the second of which was a free position goal. It was 13:35 before Catawba scored a goal. A score by Luca at the 12:03 mark put the Abbey in front 9-1. Luca then handed out two assists in a span of less than a minute, putting The Abbey on top 11-2. The Indians managed to score in the final minutes of the half, but The Abbey led 11-7 at halftime.
Luca got the scoring started in the second on a pass from Felsoci, who scored a man-up goal with 17:52 in the game. It would take until the 16:48 mark before the Crusader defense gave up a goal in the half. Then Belmont Abbey forced Catawba into an 11-minute scoring drought. With 4:44 in the game, Felsoci scored a man-up goal to cap off the Abbey scoring. The Crusaders took the win 15-12.
On the day, Felsoci led the offensive efforts with six goals and three assists, for a total of nine points. Luca scored four goals and handed out two assists. Eastman contributed three goals and an assist. Anne Brannon made 15 saves in goal. The tough Abbey defense forced 23 Catawba turnovers.
Belmont Abbey will next welcome Saint Leo University on Friday, March 2 for a 4 p.m. game.
