BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team won a thrilling 8-7 contest over Pfeiffer today. The victory improves the Abbey's record to 7-5 in 2017 and 6-1 in conference play. The Falcons are now 7-5 overall and 5-2 against Conference Carolinas opponents.
Pfeiffer struck first, but Allison Cline tied it up at the 13:04 mark off a pass from Erin Kunkel. Later in the half, midfielder Marin Felsoci scored two goals in a span of 1:29 to put the Crusaders in front 3-1. Katelin Glass found the net at the 1:07 mark before Felsoci scored a free position goal to give Belmont Abbey a 5-2 lead at halftime.
The second half started out much like the first, a defensive battle with both teams forcing turnovers and advancing the ball quickly. Attacker Rebecca Luca ended the scoring drought at the 23:17 mark to give the Crusaders a 6-2 advantage. At the 7:58 mark, Caitlin Cook set up Madison Eberhardt for a score and a 7-5 lead, but the Falcons tied the game at seven with under six minutes to go. With 1:32 in the game, Glass scores a goal that proved to be the winner, as the Abbey took the victory 8-7.
On the day, Felsoci's three goals led the Abbey's offensive attack, while Glass contributed two. Defender Kassie Easter picked up six ground balls and forced seven Falcon turnovers, both game-highs and sophomore Annie Brannon made six saves in goal.
Belmont Abbey will next visit Coker on Saturday at 7 p.m.
