Women's Lacrosse Falls To #3 Limestone, 18-5 In Conference Carolinas Semifinal
The 2014 Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse season came to an end with an 18-5 loss at top-seeded and nationally third ranked Limestone this afternoon. Limestone advances to Sunday's Championship game as it improves to 16-0, while the Abbey ends its season with a mark of 9-6.
The Saints opened the game with three straight goals before junior midfielder Katy Connery put the Abbey on the board at the 20:08 mark. After the Saints countered just over two minutes later, Erin Kunkel netted an unassisted goal with 15:08 left to trim the deficit to 4-2.
Limestone, however, pulled away with three-straight goals to climb its lead to 7-2, but the Abbey scored two straight-both by Shanin Darley-to close the deficit to 7-4 with 3:55 left.
The Saints closed the half with two straight goals to carry a 9-4 lead into the break.
Connery scored her second and final goal of the game to open the second half, but the Crusaders did not score again as Limestone ended the game scoring the last nine goals to advance to Sunday's final.
Connery and Darley both had two goals with Connery leading all players with seven ground balls. Natasha Whitman and Gina Colella scooped up five and four, respectively. Kassie Easter handed out three assists.
