Women's Lacrosse Downed By Lindenwood, 15-6
Trailing 13-0 at the half, the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team showed more fire in the second half as it outscored Lindenwood 6-2 in the final 30 minutes in a 15-6 loss this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Lions improve to 5-2, while the Crusaders suffer their first loss, falling to 5-1.
Lindenwood dominated the opening 30 minutes, scoring 13 goals on 27 shots and holding the Abbey to just five, but the Abbey came alive in the second half, scoring six goals on 11 shots. Lindenwood netted just two goals on seven shots in the second half.
The Crusaders scored the first five goals of the second half, all coming in the first 19 minutes. Kassie Easter put the Abbey on the board just 4:02 into the half, followed by a Katelin Glass marker less than three minutes later. Goals from Molly Schaefer, Katy Connery and Shanin Darley all came next, which made the score 13-5.
Lindenwood scored the next two goals, but a Darley free position strike with 2:36 left closed the scoring.
Lindenwood outshot the Abbey 34-16 but the Crusaders held an 11-7 edge in the second half. It also won the second half draw control battle 9-4 after the Lions edged the Abbey 11-10 in the first half.
Colella won three draw controls, while Hofmeister, Whitman, Easter and Lauren DiChiara each led the way with three ground balls.
