NEWARK, Del. - The Belmont Abbey Women's Bowling team finished with an 8-5 record in this weekend's Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Wilmington University,
On day one, the entire day was played in Baker format. Belmont Abbey lost to Adelphi and Wilmington, before beating Pittsburgh-Bradford, Felician, and New Jersey City to finish the day 3-2.
On day two the Crusaders played five traditional games. Freshman Victoria Bird led the way for The Abbey with an average of 181.20. This put her in ninth place out of 77 bowlers. Next in line was freshman Touri Holmes, with a 167.80 average, which also placed her in the top 20 for the day. As a unit, Belmont Abbey lost to Chestnut Hill, Kutztown, and LIU-Post, while earning victories against Mount Aloysius and Penn State - Altoona. The Crusaders collectively averaged 161.48 in their five matches played.
Belmont Abbey closed out the tournament going 3-0 on day three. First, they defeated Pitt-Bradford 849-827. Next was a 1,008-978 victory over Wilmington. Then came a 1,127-1,113 win over Felician to wrap up the weekend.
The Crusaders' 8-5 record were tied for fourth place in the tournament, out of 12 teams.
Belmont Abbey will next head to Pensacola, Fla. to compete in the FAMU Rattler. That tournament will take place on January 27-28, 2018.
