The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team suffered a 91-51 loss to Limestone this evening in Gaffney. It was the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
Limestone scored each of the first six points of the game and built a lead as big as 14 in the first quarter. Limestone led 25-12 at the end of the first.
In the second, Gabrielle Bethel and Larisa Bishop combined for 15 of the team's 17 points for the period. During this period, the Abbey pulled to within seven at 30-23, but a 10-0 Limestone run extended the Saints' lead. At halftime, the Crusaders trailed 48-29.
Belmont Abbey's offense went cold for most of the third, but Taylor Johnson hit a three-point shot as time expired to give the Crusaders a much-needed energy boost.
The Crusaders were not able to score for the first 3:15 of the fourth, though they put a run together in the middle of the period to make it a 85-47 Saints lead. In the end, Belmont Abbey took a 91-51 loss.
Gabrielle Bethel led the Crusaders with 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Alex Busch contributed with seven points and six boards, while Johnson and Bishop finished with 10 points each.
On the season, the Crusaders went 8-21 and 7-15 in conference play.
