Women's Basketball Upended At Emmanuel 60-46

The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team suffered a 60-46 loss at first year Conference Carolinas member Emmanuel College this evening in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Lions improve to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas, while the Crusaders drop to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey is off until Wednesday when it welcomes league leading and nationally-ranked Limestone to the Wheeler Center. Tipoff on Roman Catholic Community night is 5:30.

The Lions never trailed as they opened the contest on a 17-1 run in the first four minutes and never looked back.

The Crusaders cut the deficit down to as few as 10 at 29-19, which was the halftime score.

Emmanuel maintained its double digit lead for most of the second half, until the Crusaders closed it down to seven thanks to a 7-0 run, which chopped the Emmanuel lead to 50-43 with 4:06 to go.

From there, Emmanuel closed the game on an 11-3 run to win by 14.

Belmont Abbey was led by Caitlyn Ranson, who led all scorers with 20 points. She scored 14 of those in the second half. McKenzie Owen added 14 and seven rebounds.

The Crusaders shot just 23 percent (15-63) and 4-11 from three-point range.
