The Belmont Abbey women's basketball program will honor the jeresey of former Crusader All-American Nicole Woods (2003-06) during halftime of the Belmont Abbey men's basketball game against North Georgia. The women play Livingstone prior to the men's game, with tip-off starting at 5:30 inside the Wheeler Center.
Along with honoring Woods's jersey, all women's basketball alumni that attend the event will receive an alumni Coin and honoring them for their participation in the women's basketball program. Belmont Abbey is trying to get as many alumni back that night and if they plan to attend please rsvp with Audrey Timmerman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Woods, from Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, who is currently an assistant coach at UNC Charlotte, will have her #21 honored after fashioning a spectacular career for Belmont Abbey.
She finished her career with 1641 points, ranking fourth in school history, while her 676 points in 2005-06 still stand as a program high for a single season. She tallied a career-best 37 points in two games, at Wingate (Jan. 3, 2005) and at Queens (Feb. 19, 2005). She also owns the only triple-double in Crusaders' history, with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Erskine (Jan. 6, 2005).
Woods earned NCAA Division II Bulletin All-American cecond team accolades as a senior as she finished her final campaign .01 ppg behind the national leader, averaging 24.1 for the Crusaders and collecting the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Player of the Year honor. She was named to the league's first team as a junior and senior. As a junior, Woods placed third nationally with 8.1 assists per game.
