WILSON, N.C. - Kaitlin Moore hit two doubles, leading Belmont Abbey to a 6-0 win after losing the first game 1-0. The Crusaders move to 7-13 in 2018, including 1-1 in conference play. Barton is now 7-11 overall, and 1-1 against conference opponents.
The Crusaders provided some offense in the second, when Brooke Pegram hit a single to shortstop, and advanced to second on a Barton throwing error. Later in the inning, Alexis Pereiro added an infield single, moving Pegram to third. The Abbey was unable to bring her home, however, and moved to the bottom of the inning scoreless.
Chace Helms was also impressive on the mound, giving up just two hits over the first four innings.
Pereiro got on base again in the seventh, but the team was unable to bring her home. In the seventh, Barton managed to score a run without recording a hit, and the Bulldogs took the first game 1-0.
Helms had an impressive performance, giving up just four hits and an unearned run in 6.1 innings thrown. She struck out four Bulldogs.
Game two started off as a pitching duel, with neither team scoring in the first four innings. From there it was all Abbey. Kaitlin Moore doubled to left center, bringing Pereiro home. In the sixth, Moore hit a 3-RBI double to put The Abbey in front 4-0.
In the final inning, it was Melissa Neyhouse who came through, reaching on a fielder's choice and scoring Kelkcee Fulton. Lauren Clifford went on to bring Alyssa Sciaudone home to cap off the offense, and The Abbey took the game 6-0.
On the day, Pereiro went 4-for-6 with two runs scored. Moore was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Ivorie Maltby gave up just three hits in six innings pitched.
The Crusaders will next head to Greeneville, Tenn. on March 9 to compete in a tournament hosted by Tusculum College.
