Wilson, Pegram and Duran Pick Up hits Against Carson-Newman

BELMONT, N.C. -- Elena Duran doubled and Peyton Wilson and Brooke Pegram each has singles, but the hits were not enough as Carson-Newman swept a doubleheader from Belmont Abbey Tuesday afternoon, winning by scores of 4-0 and 5-0.

In the opener, the teams were scoreless until the sixth, when Carson-Newman (9-3) plated three unearned runs. The Eagles added one in the top of the seventh for the 4-0 final. Wilson had the Crusaders' lone hit in the contest, a single in the right field in the second inning.

Lacey Rinus (5-2) earned the win for C-N with the complete-game effort. Starter Annabeth Watkins (2-4) took the loss despite not allowing an earned run over five innings.

In the nightcap, the Eagles tallied two in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the win. Pegram singled in the third before Duran laced a pitch down the left field line in the seventh.

Morgan Crawford threw a complete game to improve to 4-1 for the Eagles, while starter Chace Helms (2-2) suffered the loss.

Belmont Abbey (5-7) returns to action tomorrow against Francis Marion.
