BELMONT, N.C. -- Peyton Wilson was three-for-three in the nightcap and Brianna Embler registered three hits over two games, but Belmont Abbey dropped a doubleheader to cross-town rival Queens Tuesday afternoon, 8-2 and 8-3.
Anna Mixon and Alyssa Schiadone each recorded two hits on the afternoon.
Belmont Abbey (2-10-2) started the day on a strong note, scoring two runs in its first at-bat. Melissa Neyhouse drove in a run on a fielder's choice, before Dani Marietta brought home Anna Mix with a sacrifice fly.
But Queens (9-7) came right back with two in the second, then added runs in the third, fifth and sixth for a 5-2 lead. The Royals added three more in the seventh for an 8-2 decision. Courtney Pearson (5-4) earned the win, while Shannan Mas (1-3) took the loss.
In game two, Queens jumpred out to a 6-0 lead after an inning and a half before Belmont Abbey tried to rally. The Crusaders plated two unearned runs in the on a sacrifice bunt by Brooke Pegram and on an error during a stolen base attempt.
The Royals posted single tallies in the fourth and fifth before Anna Mixa walked and scored on another Queens error, leading to the 8-3 final. Evie Scott (4-2) gained the win, while Wilson fell to 0-3 with the loss.
Belmont Abbey begins a four-game road trip on Tuesday at Carson-Newman.
