BURLINGTON, NC - In a game halted by torrential rains last evening, the Belmont Abbey Crusaders would begin day two of the Conference Carolinas Softball Championships with the resumption of their winner's bracket game against Pfeiffer.
Despite a pair of hits from Ally Pearsall and three RBI from Jena Reisenauer, the Crusaders could not overcome eight unanswered runs after the restart, falling to Pfeiffer 9-3.
Reisenauer opened the scoring for the Crusaders with a RBI groundout, scoring Alexis Pereiro to even the game at one.
With the game halted heading to the bottom of the third, Pfeiffer came off the bus hot, scoring their final eight runs in the third to take control.
The Crusaders would trim the lead in the fifth, as Mackenzie Dziendziel singled, then scored ahead of Jena Reisenauer's seventh homer of the year.
Laura Williams would pitch the final innings, keeping Pfeiffer scoreless to close out the contest.
Callie Kuykendall picked up the win for Pfeiffer to move her record to 6-1. Sam Jacobs was saddled with the loss to fall to 7-10 on the year.
The Crusaders return quickly to action with a 2pm elimination game against either King or North Greenville.
