Belmont Abbey Softball played twice in Hickory on Saturday against schools from the Peach Belt Conference. The end result would be a pair of losses to Augusta University and Georgia College and State University. The Crusaders lost 6-0 in the opener to Augusta, with Georgia College taking the second contest by a 7-2 verdict.
In the first game of the day, the Crusaders were unable to solve Jaguars starting pitcher Paige Deschaine, who was almost perfect, spinning the complete game allowing just one hit. Mackenzie Dziendziel got the lone hit for the Abbey, as Augusta put the game out of reach with a four run seventh. Alyssa Buell took the loss in the opener for the Abbey, tossing two innings, giving up a pair of runs on four hits.
In game two, Georgia College scored in the first three frames against Samantha Jacobs, earning Carly Lewis her seventh win of the year. The Crusaders were lead in game two by Brittany Ortiz, Dani Marietta and Selena Thompson, as the trio recorded two hits each. Marietta also had a double to her credit, as the Abbey wrapped seven hits total in game two.
The pair of losses moves the Abbey to 4-10 on the year, with a trip to Carson-Newman coming up on Thursday.
