Lester Leads Crusaders at Winthrop

The Belmont Abbey Men's Cross Country squad ran at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational 8K in Rock Hill, SC this morning.  The Abbey finished in 8th place as a team.

Three Crusaders finished in the top half of the race. Junior Patrick Lester earned a top-20 finish, out of 89 non-Division 1 runners, with a 28:42.3 run.  Sophomore Darvy Soignet also recorded a top-40 finish with a time of 29:44.9, good enough for 34th place.  Just two spots behind Soignet was fellow sophomore Thomas Eichorn, who completed the race in 29:58.3.

Sophomore Nicholas Snell (30:36.7), sophomore Billy Heavener (32:27.8), and freshman Justin Haggerty (32:51.4) rounded out the field.  All Crusader runners finished in the top 60.

Head Coach Nick Radkewich made the following comments: "The men had a strong team race today finishing just behind Carolinas Conference foe Limestone.  I thought that Patrick Lester and Darvey Soignet had a outstanding races individually but it was the team effort that really shown through. The team will be looking forward to preparing over the next three weeks for their next competition at the Royals Challenge, October 7th."
