HIGH POINT, N.C. – For the second straight week and third time this season, Belmont Abbey's Liam Maxwell has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
A sophomore from Manahawkin, N.J., Maxwell helped Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 week and its first three-match winning streak of the season. He averaged 5.17 kills per set after posting 62 kills on a .282 hitting percentage for the Crusaders. He would also add 26 digs, eight service aces and six blocks.
In a 3-1 victory over Lees-McRae, Maxwell put down 25 kills to go along with five digs, two aces and two blocks. He would then notch the first of two double-doubles on the week, posting 15 kills and 10 digs with four aces and three blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Queens. In a 3-2 win over Lincoln Memorial, Maxwell went for 22 kills and 11 digs with two aces and one block to close out his week.
Maxwell, who currently leads Conference Carolinas in both kills per set (4.28) and total kills (377), has topped 20 kills on six occasions this season. He also ranks third in service aces (35) and seventh in digs (143).
