HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey outside hitter Liam Maxwell has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Player of the Week for games played from Mar. 12-18, the league office announced today. This is Maxwell's second POTW honor of the season as we also won the award on February 12.
A sophomore from Manahawkin, N.J., Maxwell averaged 5.18 kills per set after posting 57 kills on a .336 hitting percentage for the Crusaders last week. He would also add 18 digs and five blocks as Belmont Abbey went 1-2 last week.
In a tough 3-2 loss to Charleston (W.V.), Maxwell put away a career-high 28 kills to go along with eight digs and one block. He would then lead the Crusaders to a 3-0 sweep of Limestone with 17 kills, four digs and three blocks. Maxwell's week would end with 12 kills, six digs and a block in a 3-0 setback to King.
Maxwell currently leads Conference Carolinas in both kills per set (4.14) and total kills (315).
Belmont Abbey returns to action tomorrow with a conference match at Lees-McRae.
