Cerdeiras, Pautler Shine on Day One of Track and Field Championship

CENTRAL, S.C. -- Tomas Cerdeiras established a new personal best with a throw of 47.34 meters (142-2) in the javelin to finish fourth, highlighting Belmont Abbey's first day of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Track and Field Championship. The result gave The Abbey seven team points, helping it to a seventh-place standing entering Saturday.

Two other Crusaders earned points with top-eight finishes. Dominic Pautler finished eighth in his two events for two points. In the long jump, he covered 6.39m (20-11.75) on his second attempt, then passed on his three finals tries to concentrate on other events. He later finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 44.03m (144-5).

Aspen Dillard placed seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.84m (6-0.5) on his second attempt of the fourth round.

A pair of Crusaders advanced out of the track preliminaries to Saturday's finals. Matthew Difrancesco finished seventh in the 300 with a time of 23.32 seconds, while Michael Koceja was sixth in the 400 Hurdles (56.61).

Action concludes on Saturday.
