Smallwood Captures Conference Carolinas Shot Put Championship

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Sophomore Julian Smallwood threw the shot put a distance of 14.99 meters (49'-2.25") on his final attempt Sunday to win the title at the 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship. The conference leader all year, Smallwood also had the second-best throw of the event, 14.87 meters, on his fifth throw.

Junior Matt Difrancesco won his heat to finish sixth in the 200m dash, covering the distance in 22.43, while freshman Daniel Grosch placed seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:01.76. The 4x400 relay team of Difrancesco, Michael Koceja, Tomas Cerdeiras, Alex Abalos also contributed points to the team score, finishing sixth in 3:29.20.

Michael Koceja (400m) and Dimarcus Vilcheck (800m) each won his heat, but did not score in the final.

Belmont Abbey now turns its attention to the outdoor season which starts next month.
