Former Coach Hodge Honored with 5K Run

BELMONT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey College student-athletes, staff and members of the local community gathered together Thursday afternoon to for the Seventh Annual Bill Hodge 5K Run, honoring the Crusaders' late Head Track and Field Coach, Bill Hodge.

Coach Hodge began his journey to Belmont Abbey College in the spring of 2009 with the start of the men's and women's track and field program, also serving as the head cross country coach in the falls of 2009 and 2010.
In November 2010, Hodge suffered from a fatal heart attack while doing what he loved, coaching. The team competed at the Conference Carolinas Championship earlier in the day.
At the start of the 6 p.m. race and fun run, a moment of silence was observed, followed by the famous words of Coach Hodge, "Run Baby Run!" Though his time was short, he positively impacted students and staff and helped start a wonderful program that flourishes to this day.
The Belmont Abbey track and field program would like to thank all who attended and looks forward to seeing you next year for another amazing race.
