HIGH POINT N.C. - Belmont Abbey freshman George Barfoot has been named to the 2017 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis All-Conference First Team, the conference has announced.
Barfoot went 18-7 in singles competition this season, playing mostly at #4. He was 9-1 against Conference Carolinas opponents. He also went 4-2 against conference opposition in doubles play.
Freshman Zachary Blythe and junior James Delaney received Second Team All-Conference honors. Blythe, who usually played at #5 singles, finished the season 19-5 at singles, a team-high record, which included a 10-0 record in conference play. He was 13-10 in doubles competition. Delaney finished the year 9-6, including an 8-2 season against conference opponents, at singles. He usually played #3. Delaney was also 5-5 at doubles in conference play this year.
Head Coach Michael Salomon offered some comments on his players' recognitions: "I'm really proud of our three all-conference players. They put a lot of hard work in this year, and consistently competed at a high level day in and day out. This is the most all-conference players we have ever had in a season, and is a good representation of the depth of our team and the efforts of each member of our program. It is obviously a great recognition for the three players honored, but more importantly it's a great recognition for every member of our team who put their heart and soul into our success."
The Crusaders, who will be the #2 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament, will begin postseason play Friday morning at 9:00 against North Greenville University. The tournament will be played at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
