Men's Tennis Squeaks Past Catawba in Dual Opener

CATAWBA, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey took two of three doubles matches, then earned a split of the singles matches to post a 5-4 victory over Catawba in the first dual action of the season. Carlos Moreno clinched the victory at No. 5 with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 come-from-behind victory.

The Crusaders opened a 2-1 lead after doubles with 8-6 wins at No. 3 by Tomas Pardo and Michael Rapsik and at No. 1 by Grant Goldin and Zach Blythe.

Goldin push the advantage to 3-1 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2, but Catawba rebounded at No. 1. Blythe rebounded from a first set loss for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 3, but the Indians stayed close at 4-3 with a win at No. 4.

Moreno then completed his win to seal the victory.
