Men's Tennis Wins Sixth-Straight, Blanks Montreat, 9-0

The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six with a convincing 9-0 victory over Montreat this afternoon at the Reidy Tennis Center. The Crusaders are now 8-5 overall and will take on two Peach Belt powers Wednesday, GRU Augusta and USC-Aiken.

Today, the Crusaders won all three doubles matches with little trouble. The first flight of Eduardo Escobar and James Delaney powered to an 8-4 win. At number two, Nikhil Reddy Amaresh and Damien Nelson earned an 8-5 victory. The third doubles team of Juan Baez and Gabriel Trombini won 8-0 in a match that lasted less than 20 minutes.

In singles, Baez won a marathon match at number one, earning a 6-4, 6-7 10-8 victory. Delaney followed with an easy 6-0, 6-4 win at number two. Amaresh went the distance in both sets, earning a 7-5, 7-5 win at the three spot.

At number four, Escobar posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory.  The number five and six matches closed out early, as Nelson recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number five, while Will Bezy scored a 6-0, 6-0 match at number six.
