BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team battled back in the first half to tie the game before dropping the contest to Lees-McRae 2-1. Julien Armaroli scored the Crusaders goal, heading in a free kick from Patrick Kibler in the 43rd minute.
The contest was very evenly matched before the Bobcats took the lead in the 22nd minute when Pol Vassart put in a header off a free kick. Lees-McRae held the 1-0 lead until Armaroli was able to send in the equalizer.
The Bobcats sent in the eventual game winner in the 70th minute with a header from Johannes Oeksnevad.
Both teams collected five corner kicks, with Lees-McRae edging out the Crusaders in shots 14-11. Abbey keeper Wes Holifield managed three saves on the night and Bobcat keeper, Tyler Pavlet, recorded two.
Belmont Abbey travels to Tigerville, S.C. to play North Greenville Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
