SALISBURY, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey College men's soccer team defeated Catawba by the score of 3-1 Tuesday with the help of Clay Dimick's two goals. The Crusaders improve to 5-8-2, maintaining their 3-6 Conference Carolinas record. Catawba is now 9-6 and 6-4 in the SAC.
The Indians struck first, almost immediately, in the third minute as Ian Orr took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity. His fourth goal of the season gave the royals a 1-0 lead.
The Crusaders responded just as quickly when Clay Dimick recorded his seventh goal of the season off a pass from Geinner Duque. The goal tied the score at one. It would remain tied for the duration of the first half as both teams fought with equal opportunities.
The Abbey took the lead in the 48th minute on Clay Dimick's second goal of the game. The leading goal scorer for the Crusaders now has eight goals this season.
The Crusaders outshot the Indians 18-7 and also had the advantage in corners, 7-2.
The Abbey will host Pfeiffer Saturday, October 29 for their final scheduled game of the season. The Crusaders will recognize their seniors with the game beginning at 3:00 p.m.
