BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory, lead by two first half goals by Luke Wood. The Crusaders improve to 3-7-2 this season and 2-5 in conference play. North Greenville is now 1-8-1 and 0-7-1 in conference.
The Crusaders of Belmont Abbey dominated play in the first half, ripping 11 shots. Luke Wood recorded his fourth and fifth goals of the season, his second multi-goal game this season. His first goal of the match came in the 35th minute when Patrick Kibler sent a long pass from midfield over the defense that lead Wood perfectly. Wood's second goal of the match occurred in the 38th minute when Geinner Duque set up the ball to be finished into the corner of the net. The Crusaders entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw much of the same Abbey control ripping eight more shots. The Crusaders added to their lead when Clay Dimick assisted Steven Pate's second goal of the season. Dimick's cross around the defense allowed Pate to beat the keeper. Grant Retamar notched his first goal of the season with 11 seconds remaining in the game ripping a shot into the back of the net from just outside the 18.
Mateo Barzola recorded five saves for North Greenville.
The Crusaders' next match will be Saturday against Lees-McRae. That game will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.
