Men's Soccer Wins in Double Overtime

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team earned a dramatic double overtime 2-1 win over Emmanuel Saturday. The Crusaders improve to 2-3-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first half the Crusaders struck first in the second stanza as James Delaney scored in the 58th minute. Julien Armaroli's pass allowed Delaney to give the lead to the Crusaders.

Just four minutes later, the Lions equaled the score when Sean Fitz sent the ball across the line. That concluded the scoring throughout the end of regulation and all of the first overtime.

The second overtime period was barely underway when Mark Trompeter ended the game in the 101st minute. Taking a pass from Nick Fuller, Trompeter was able to find the back of the net putting an end to the game.

Emmanuel (1-5) finished the game with 14 shots with the Crusaders firing 10. Wes Holifield recorded two saves on the night.

Belmont Abbey will be back in action Wednesday as it travels to Bristol, Tenn., to take on conference opponent King. That game will begin at 3 p.m.
