Men's Soccer Earns Draw in Home Opener

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field against Coker.

The Crusaders (0-1-1) struck first when Sophomore Mark Trompeter laced a goal into the back of the net from 25 yards out. The Cobras (0-0-1) knotted it up with a penalty kick spurred on by a handball in the penalty box. Alvaro Urena scored the goal for Coker.

Belmont Abbey had a chance to close it out in regulation but a rocket off the foot of freshman Wrenn Pallas just went wide of the goal. With one last chance in the second overtime a Crusader goal was waived off due to offsides as time expired.

Sophomore Wes Holifield recorded three saves on four shots on goal.

The Crusaders will host UNC Pembroke September 10 at Alumni Field. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 pm.
