ANDERSON, S.C. -- Freshman Jacob Scruggs fired an even-par 72 Monday to stand tied for second at the halfway point of the 2016 Anderson Invitational, held at Cobb's Glen Country Club. He is four shots behind the leader Mack Sheppard of Catawba.
Belmont Abbey entered nine players in two teams in the tournament, which will conclude on Tuesday. The first group of five players sits fifth overall after a team score of 309. In addition to Scruggs, Michael Mead shot five-over 77 to stand tied for 19th, while Maurizio DeBono and Colin Reno each carded an 80 for a tie for 29th. Olivier Arsenault is tied for 39 at 82.
The remaining four Crusaders are in seventh place at 313. John Walker led the way in a seventh-place tie at two-over 74, followed by Connor Rinoski at 77, tied for 19th. Brody Davis and Austin Gliha each shot 81 to stand tied for 34th.
