GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- A hot-shooting Tusculum team was too much for Belmont Abbey Friday night, in the final non-conference game of the season for the Crusaders. The Pioneers shot 53.7 percent from the field enroute to an 87-60 victory at Pioneer Arena.
Drexler Clark tallied 20 points and dished out five assists, while Jacob Wilson added 12 points, four rebounds and four helpers. Ben Ferguson was the top rebounder with seven. Four Pioneers reached double figures.
Belmont Abbey (5-6) opened a 2-0 lead on an Aidan Richard jumper, but Tusculum rattled off nine straight points and never trailed again. The Pioneers shot 60.7 percent in the opening period, while limiting the Crusaders to 36.7 percent. Tusculum led 48-26 in the break.
In the second half, Belmont Abbey closed the gap to 17, 50-33, on a Ferguson three with 16:45 remaining, but never got closer.
Belmont Abbey returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it faces Emmanuel in a return to Conference Carolinas play. The Crusader men play the front end of a noon doubleheader finished by the women's team.
