Lane Posts Second Double-Double of Season

BELMONT, N.C. -- Deion Lane recorded his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds but a big second half lifted North Georgia to an 85-79 victory over Belmont Abbey Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Center. Jacob Wilson and Gunnar Hardarson also reached double figures in scoring with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

>Belmont Abbey held a 33-30 halftime lead after shooting 44.8 percent in the period with Wilson tallying nine of his points before intermission. The Crusaders fell behing 8-0 at the start, but rallied to event the game at 19-19 on the heels of a 5-0 run. They gained their first lead of the contest at 25-23 on a jumper by Lane, then finished the half with back-to-back baskets for the three-point edge.

In the second, the NightHawks (3-4) took control with a 17-1 run midway through the period. The NightHawks led 56-55 after a BAC free throw, then tallied 12 straight points. After another free throw, they added five in a row. The Crusaders cut the margin to singles digits with just over a minute left, then closed to within four on a conventional three-point play by Lane with 23 ticks left. However, a pair of free throws three seconds later sealed the victory for North Georgia.

Belmont Abbey returns to action on Wednesday when it wraps up its homestand against Lenoir-Rhyne.
