Men's Basketball Loses At Chowan, 74-57

The Chowan men's basketball team led from start to finish to defeat Belmont Abbey 74-57 this afternoon in Murfreesboro. Chowan moves to 3-1 while the Crusaders drop to 2-2.

Chowan shot 52 percent from the field and outrebounded the Crusaders 42-19 as the Hawks opened the game on a 20-8 run and never looked back.

Belmont Abbey trailed 33-21 with 3:02 to go in the first half but the Crusaders closed the period on a 7-2 run to trim their halftime deficit to 35-28 at the break.

The Crusaders started the second half outscoring Chowan 5-2 in the first 1:04 to close the Hawks lead down to three at 37-34, but the hosts countered with a 10-2 run to move the lead back to double digits at 47-36 with 11:01 to play.

From there, the Crusaders got no closer than 10 points as the Hawks earned the 13 point win.

Deion Lane led Belmont Abbey with 15 points, with Nick Hough adding 12. Ray Chen added seven points and three assists.

The Crusaders shot 37 percent from the field and was 5-14 (35 percent) from three point range while making 20 of 29 from the free throw line.

Belmont Abbey is back in action Tuesday at 7:30 when it opens Conference Carolinas play at North Greenville.
